Welcome to the Jamaican Diaspora Website, providing a link between Jamaicans at home and abroad. Jamaicans living abroad always have maintained strong affinity and commitment to their country. Neither distance nor number of years away from their homeland has ever succeeded in diminishing nor erasing that sense of belonging or pride in a country that is small in size yet big in achievements and accomplishments. This strong attachment engenders a keen interest in the welfare and affairs of Jamaica and Jamaicans at home, a yearning for not just news but information on the “Rock”, as we affectionately and proudly call this beloved Island of ours. For their part, Jamaicans at home view the success of fellow Jamaicans in the Diaspora as a source of pride. We celebrate when the there is news of yet another Jamaican distinguishing himself or herself in his or her adopted country, through the resilience and hard work for which we are noted. A key objective of the Jamaican Diaspora Website is to satisfy this need for information on Jamaica, and on Jamaicans on both sides of the divide. It aims to provide information on issues ranging from Government policies and initiatives, in general, and specific to the Diaspora to activities, initiatives and achievements of Jamaicans in the Diaspora, to vacancies in public sector entities. This list is by no means exhaustive as the website is a work in progress. It will be necessary to expand the scope and range of the website to respond to the dynamism of the partnership between Jamaicans at home and abroad. There also is need to address the increasing demand for information on Jamaica’s engagement with its Diaspora and its best practices from researchers and other individuals and countries.
